Book Review: Kathleen Morgan - Enchant the Heavens

Published in 1995, Enchant the Heavens is an historical romance novel by Kathleen Morgan. Set in Britannia A.D. 55, Morgan pens an actual love story as opposed to erotic scenes that dominate and is passed off as a romance novel. There are sex scenes, not explicit but in total there are three with one encounter not told in detail.

The novel follows Rhianna, a 17-year-old Brittani, who vowed that human love nor life would separate her from her clan and country. Marcus is a Roman soldier posted to Britannia for a year before returning to Rome and an illustrious career in the Senate which awaits him. He vows to keep the peace between the Britons and the Romans as tempers flare on both sides. However, love has a way of disrupting the best laid plans. After rescuing the fiery and passionate Rhianna from a boar, Marcus cannot forget the young beauty and the night he spent in her arms. While lust can be misconstrued as love, Rhianna and Marcus see their feelings for each other as it is, lust. Lust can lead to love but it must never be mistaken for love, a fault in many romance novels. Throughout the novel a cruel fate attempts to keep Rhianna and Marcus apart but then destiny, ever a fickle woman, drives them together again.

What separates this novel from the countless others I have read over the years is the characters and the fact that at times you can identify with them. Rhianna is burdened by the gift of sight, a betrothal and clan responsibilities and expectations as the chieftain's daughter. Convinced Rhianna would only be safe at his side, Marcus would risk his honour and life to claim her.

This book is truly my favourite, I have two copies of it. Since it is such an old book, if you wish to purchase it you can buy it used from either Amazon or eBay starting at £2 (inclusive of S&H).
