Today the Daily Mail carried the story that about 100,000 British Facebook users in addition to six million U.S. users have deactivated their accounts for one of two reasons.
- Privacy Concerns
- Facebook is boring.
Social Networking sites have become so tedious. I reckon if I didn't feel compelled to see what my so-called friends (Yes, some of the people on Facebook are not my friends *shock*) are up to, I doubt I'd really be on the internet much.
Personally, I'm not overly concerned with privacy. I've had a Facebook catastrophe in 2009 but if the Facebook geeks think they can protect all this info everyone puts then kudos to them. I'll just try and not put too many things on there to be paranoid and deactivate my account.
Pros of Facebook
1. Facebook allows a user to network, meet new people, keep updated with old friends and help you rediscover old friend.
2. ........
I just realised that there is only one pro to Facebook.
Cons of Facebook
1. Overexposed. Thanks to ItsKingsleyBitch on YouTube, overexposed is a fave word of mine. Too many people documenting every single moment of their lives like give me a break. And the worst bit for me is all these couples. Isn't a phone call or meeting in person sacred anymore? First there's the drama, then the mushy bit and then the sickening bit.
2. Stalkers.
3. Social Network Games which I have already blogged about.
4. Facebook trying too hard. For example they're giving you your own email address? Like seriously that's going too far. Personally I love my Gmail because it's so easy to use and maneuver. Facebook offering me email. No thank you.
5. It has a tendency to take up all your time. It's worse than having a boyfriend/girlfriend.
So I think if people deactivate their Facebook accounts, Facebook only has itself to blame.
