End of a Decade

When I was thinking of a title for this I was thinking end of an era but it was too cliche, so I decided to go with end of a decade.

Today was the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II and I spent 3.5 hours of my life that I will obviously never get back, watching it streamed on youtube. It was exciting and a little heartrending to see this saga come to an end. For the past 10 years we have been truly entertained by Joanna Rowling's Harry Potter series on the big screen. I've seen the first few movies with one of my BFFs and it became a tradition until life took us to different geographical locations.

Rowling took readers into her world of Hogwarts, wizardry, friendship and enmity. I am in awe of Rowling for her ability to conjure a world, give depth and meaning to her characters and write seven books out of this. I admire her for that. In the same manner that I admire George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkein and when I start reading the Wheel of Time series I'll admire that author as well. I sincerely wish that I had the ability to construct something like that. I've been told I've got quite a good imagination but I am well trounced by the literary works of the aforementioned authors.

On Friday, July 15, it will indeed all end. Ten years of watching two young wizards, and one intelligent witch grow up on the big screen and an adventure that began with a letter addressed to Harry Potter at Cupboard under the stairs, 4 Privet Drive.

Thank you J.K. Rowling and thank you the cast of the Harry Potter movies for ten entertaining years.
