Developed in France, Sothys is a line of professional face and body treatments. Sold and administered by Sothys-trained aestheticians, this is a remarkable line that I have been using for about five years now. Given that you don't really see the effects of beauty treatments instantly I think after five years I can accurately review this line.
When I was 18 I contracted chicken pox. When you're young it's not so bad since your body would grow and adapt and you would not really see the scars of the disease. Being older, you're not so lucky. My face was absolutely ravaged by the chicken pox. One of my best friends who is an aesthetician, recommended I try out her Sothys-based facials.
The Facial
Just like any other facial, they rub things on your face, take them off, put you under the steam, do some extractions, rub more things and the best part of it all, the mini shoulder, neck and face massage. Sometimes I think, to heck with what they're actually doing in the facial, I'm only really here for the mini massage.
Right after the facial my face seemed to have a glow, it did not look as if it was abused and everything felt perfect. I bought the products my friend recommended and she started me off with the Soothing beauty milk and lotion, and the Active Cream moisturiser. When I wasn't at uni in another country I had a facial every month. Combining the facials with the products I saw an improvement. The scars and dark marks I got after the chicken pox faded over time. What I loved about the milk and lotion was that they did not feel heavy, the lotion did not leave any residue nor did it feel sticky but instead, it was rather refreshing and left my skin feeling soft.
Active Cream
The Active Cream is a lovely product. I have combination skin. A very oily T-zone and dehydrated cheeks. The Active Cream kept the oiliness at bay for which I am most grateful but it didn't really do much for my cheeks which was a bit of a disappointment. I've used many moisturisers in my day and there are some that just sits on the skin. Sothys Active Cream felt as though it penetrated the skin and really got deep down.
Sothys W.
A few years later I got hit with some serious acne and the dermatologist prescribed Roaccutane. It dried out my skin. I foolishly waxed my upper lips and lost some skin in the process. Now at the corners of my mouth there are dark patches of skin of which I am very self conscious. My aesthetician kept me on the Active Cream but changed my cleanser and toner to the Sothys W. which gradually lightens. Combined with Sothys chemical peel I have seen the dark patches around the mouth lighten but it isn't completely gone.
After being off Sothys, mainly because my products were finished and I didn't know where to replenish my stock, I tried Nivea and Simple cleansers, toners and moisturisers but they didn't sit well with me. Recently I found a Sothys-trained aesthetician and my recovery has been slow. The switch from Nivea to Sothys left me with a few breakouts but that's to be expected when you switch products. Into my second month of using Sothys again, my skin is looking so much better and feels amazing, pretty much like that feeling of being at home.
The Salon I'm going to, they use another line of products, Jan Marini. The girls there are really pushing me to switch to it from Sothys. It's a bit more expensive but it's supposed to change the way your skin behaves. Sothys has a beautiful product line and caters to your lifestyle. If you don't have time in the morning to do a regime, they have a two in one cleanser and toner that you can use in the shower. I have more time so I do the whole cleanse, tone, moisturise regime.
The key to beautiful skin is using the right products for your skin and combining that with well-balanced meals, water and exercising, which never really killed anyone. Sothys has various treatments and even cater to sensitive skin with their Immuniscience line. Another bonus is that their products smell awesome but don't irritate the skin. I am willing to give Jan Marini a shot but only because I have acne on my back, which unfortunately for me is hereditary. I have a treatment next month to see if Jan Marini will revolutionise the way my back thinks. I'll definitely be reviewing it some time next year.
Sothys facial - 5/5 Particularly because you don't have that 'I've just had a facial swollen, puffy face afterwards.'
Sothys Active Cream - 4/5 It's a bit tricky when you have combination skin.
Sothys Soothing - 5/5 An excellent introduction to the Sothys line.
Sothys W. - 3/5 It did lighten but not significantly after two years use.
