Sperm Stealing

Two weeks ago the Daily Mail's Liz Jones wrote an article that had the twitter world abuzz with people ranting and raving about what she wrote. A self proclaimed feminist, Jones wrote of how she tried to get pregnant while in her late 30s. She used dubious methods to steal the sperm of her younger boy friend and later her husband. Jones was focused on her career and being feminist, she looked down on the 'mumsy types'. However as her biological clock slammed home, 'it's now or never if you're going to have children', she became a sperm-stealer, trying to take the sperm from used condoms of her lovers in the hopes of conceiving.

Last week the Daily Mail ran another article on Dads by deception, men who were tricked into fathering children. I couldn't quite sympathise with the men who after brief encounters with women were emailed or received the call - 'I'm pregnant and don't want anything to you with you.' As one of the men in the article said,
'As far as I was concerned, two of us had gone in the bedroom and both of us had to take responsibility'.
For the women it was a case of hey I used you to get pregnant, thank you, now please bugger off.

Some men however I had to sympathise with. A husband and father of two who thought his family was complete was told he'd be a father for a third time, although he had told his wife no more children. I felt sorry for that man. The one person he could have trusted, his wife, lied to him and got pregnant. The woman, lost her husband's trust but that's her own fault.

Desperation
I pity women who wait until the alarms on their biological clock go off to decide to have children. These women tend to be the self professed feminists who are more concerned with their jobs and initially don't want to have children. However, I acknowledge that there are some women who decide to wait until they're financially and emotionally secure to pursue motherhood. According to Jones, an older woman who is with a younger man is looking to get pregnant. My forecast for men who go for cougars - fatherhood in your imminent future. That is unless the woman is beyond her childbearing years.

I had a teacher at senior school who didn't want any children. She's old now and she doesn't have any children but she's content with her lot in life. Some women consider this to be selfish since according to the Bible we're supposed to go forth and multiply.

Once upon a time I thought I'd be finished having children by the age of 25. I'm now 24 and I don't want to have children before 30. I'm young and I have so much of this world to see before I decide to take on the responsibility of children. However, if things don't go according to design and the alarm goes off on my clock I won't be a sperm-stealer. It isn't that hard to let a man know your intentions. He'll either stick around or leave. Also, you should give the man the option of whether he wants to be a part of you and your child's life, especially if you become unexpectedly pregnant. It could save a lot of stress, headache and unwanted and unnecessary baggage.
