Game of Thrones Season II

Season One of the Game of Thrones had whet viewers for the glorious imagination of a very scary man. I describe George R.R. Martin as scary because in his series A Song of Ice & Fire, in the time it takes you to like a character, Martin kills them off. Last week Season Two debuted and I'm sure the ratings must have been very high for this long awaited series.

The first episode in my estimation wasn't memorable. Tyrion Lannister was sent in by his father to serve as Hand of the King; Cersei did not take very kindly to this since she abhors the halfman; Jaime Lannister was captured by the Starks; Robb sent his mother to convince Renly Baratheon to join with him to wipe out the Lannisters and Sansa is on her Ps and Qs with King Joffrey. In the East, Daenerys is trying to find her way around; and over The Wall, the Night's Watch is trying to figure out where all the wildlings have gone.

As someone who has read the novels I am somewhat annoyed with the title of the show. I still think it should be A Song of Ice & Fire but I reckon Game of Thrones does sound better. It is incredible to see how Martin's work is visualised but I still find myself wanting to know what happens after A Dance with Dragons. I've already read the preview chapter with Reek, but the story is so unpredictable that as much as I look forward to the next book I am a bit concerned about what twist in events Martin may put. If you're concerned that the series isn't sticking to the books don't panic, GRRM is on the team for the show.

If you are in the US you can see episode 2 tonight on HBO and for the UK viewers, you have to wait til tomorrow at 9 on Sky Atlantic. By then people you know in other countries would have tweeted and facebooked all about it, ruining the viewing. I will hand it to Martin, he is a spectacular writer.
