In March 2012 the Daily Mail wrote an article about a woman who created a salve that cured her baby girl of eczema. Usually I tend to shy away from things like this because I think they are gimmicks. The article seemed legit and my sister who suffers from eczema bought a bottle of Skin Salvation and decided to give it a go.
Salvation is created
At her wits end, Natalie Balmond could not bear to hear her baby girl Lula cry herself to sleep anymore. When Great Osmond Street children's hospital suggested steroid treatments Natalie took drastic measures. Using a combination of oils and herbs from a herbal book she was given by a friend, Natalie concocted Skin Salvation. After testing it on herself, she applied it to her daughter. Many years later, Lula is quite healthy and Skin Salvation is available under prescription in the UK.
Use of Skin Salvation
After a couple nights of using the product my sister exclaimed that her eczema seemed to be improving. Noticing that the scars on her body were clearing up I decided to give the product a shot. Many years ago my dermatologist had prescribed Roaccutane - a drug used in treating acne, for me. I was advised to stay out of the sun and for the love of God do not think of waxing. Unfortunately I did not listen and whilst waxing the upper lip I lost a fair degree of skin around the corners of the mouth. I was left feeling quite self conscious about these dark areas around the mouth. After having facial treatments that focused on lightening the dark areas without success, I decided why not give this product a shot.
Packaging
The product is packaged in a glass jar with a bluish label and silver screw-on cover. The bottle is relatively heavy but otherwise the packaging is nice and neat and fits in quite nicely in my cabinet.
Product
Described on the label Pure Potions Skin Salvation is 'a moisturising natural salve which is also suitable for people prone to eczema and dry, itchy skin.' I thought to myself, eczema, not something I've got but the areas around the mouth had a tendency to go dry and really stand out.
The salve is slightly yellow in colour and to me it smelled horrid. My mum says to her it smells herbal. I cook with herbs and they smell nothing like this salve. For a couple weeks I applied the product and every morning made sure I washed around the mouth since there is the warning 'Do not expose to strong sunlight'.
Results
After a couple of months of on and off usage I noticed that the area was not very dry anymore and it did not stand out either. My mother recently started using the product and thinking about it I examined the corners of my mouth. The dark areas are significantly reduced. There are still some faint dark lines but not to the extent it once was. Thinking back I realised it had been some months since I felt conscious about my face. Although I must say that from December I resumed facial treatments. My conclusion, Skin Salvation worked over time, that is when I realised, I need to tell people about this.
Pure Potions is the brand and Skin Salvation is one of many herbal products by Natalie Balmond.
Skin Salvation - 4.5/5 (only because it smelled a bit stinky!)
