Makeup Obsession

Ever since my best friend Rheyana introduced me to MAC about three or four years back I developed an interest in makeup. Prior to that my makeup consisted of clear mascara, lipgloss and sometimes botched attempts at putting on eyeshadow without my sister's help. Last year I discovered an exciting website that gave me a makeup obsession and since then I've haven't turned back and I've spent a fair part of my allowance on makeup.

Makeup Geek has shown me how to blend, utilise all those makeup tools, how to get my makeup to look flawless and it's recommended shades of lipstick and reviewed products for my skin tone. What I love about the website is that Marlena, the CEO, every week she uploads a new video with a new look. She lists all of the products that she uses and even includes cheaper alternatives. In the videos where she uses MAC products her substitutes are from NYX and having purchased NYX products via her website (she ships internationally and accepts payment via PayPal), I've found that they are great substitutes for MAC. I usually pay around £11 for a MAC eyeshadow but with NYX I pay about £3, a huge difference.

So since my discovery of the awesomeness of MAC products I introduced my much older sister to them. She was a strong believer in the YSL line but the foundation never matched her skin tone and left her looking quite ghastly. At MAC they tested her for concealer, foundation, powder, the full nine yards and now she looks more herself with makeup on. My other sister, she was the one in the family who liked makeup and frankly she does some awesome stuff with eyeshadow. However, she wasn't too over the moon with MAC, probably because it is pricey but now that I've got a sizeable collection, I believe she can come over to 'the dark side'.

On the MAC website I've looked at some of their tutorials as well under 'Artistry in Action' and my sister had a professional photoshoot for her website and I offered to do her makeup using products from the MAC Mineralize line (between my sister and I we had all that we needed), and let's just say thanks to MakeupGeek and MAC I was able to pull off the look on her and her photos were absolutely amazing. We opted for a fully natural look since she's into personal training and you don't really wear makeup to workout.

MAC products are pricey but I have found them to be worth it. If you're not willing to spend your hard earned cash on MAC, NYX is a perfect alternative. If you're not makeup savvy and you want to experiment but not to sure how to apply makeup you can check out MakeupGeek for Marlena's tutorials she shows you how to do everything.

Here is one of my favourite tutorials from MakeupGeek. I bought all of the products off her website since some of the pigments she used were PRO colours.
